HOWTO: libieee1284
Description: A library for communicating with or identifying parallel port devices

NOTE: I use GNU tar >= 1.13.25 so it's -j for .tar.bz2 files,
it's safe to assume that make, gcc, binutils, fileutils/coreutils, gawk, sed, and grep are prerequisites for almost everything


# libieee1284 0.2.10

# Slackware 9.0 and 9.1's 'libieee1284' package includes version 0.2.6,
# 10.0 and 10.1's include 0.2.8, and 10.2's includes 0.2.10

# Prerequisites:
# gawk
# sed
# grep
# python (optional; for python module)

tar xjvf ~/libieee1284-0.2.10.tar.bz2
cd libieee1284-0.2.10
test $UID = 0 && chown -R root:root .
./configure --prefix=/usr
make

# Become root to install it
su

removepkg libieee1284
rm -f /usr/lib/libieee1284.*
make install
ldconfig

# Become yourself again

mkdir -p -m 0700 installed
rm -f installed/libieee1284-*.tar.*
mv libieee1284-0.2.10.tar.bz2 installed/


# If you ever want to uninstall libieee1284, this should do it:
