HOWTO: libpvm3
Description: Parallel Virtual Machine
Click here for ChangeLog
NOTE: I use GNU tar >= 1.13.25 so it's -j for .tar.bz2 files,
it's safe to assume that make, gcc, binutils, fileutils/coreutils, gawk, sed, and grep are prerequisites for almost everything

# libpvm3 3.4.5
# =============
test -f installed/pvm3.4.5.tgz && mv installed/pvm3.4.5.tgz .
test ! -f pvm3.4.5.tgz && wget

# Become root to build and install it

test -d /usr/local/pvm3 && rm -r /usr/local/pvm3
tar xzvf pvm3.4.5.tgz -C /usr/local/
cd /usr/local/pvm3
chown -R root:root .
find -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
find -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
( cd lib ; chmod +x aimk pvmgetarch pvmtmparch )
PVM_ROOT=/usr/local/pvm3 make

# Become yourself again

mkdir -p -m 0700 installed
rm -f installed/pvm?.*.tgz
mv pvm3.4.5.tgz installed/

# For a full installation, add /usr/local/pvm3/bin/LINUX to your PATH
# and add /usr/local/pvm3/man to your MANPATH

# If you ever want to uninstall pvm3, this should do it:
su -c "test -d /usr/local/pvm3 && rm -r /usr/local/pvm3"
rm -f ~/installed/pvm?.*.tgz
